White-collar crime is unlawful activity (typically nonviolent in nature) carried out by the likes of business professionals, lawyers, public or corporate administrative employees and intended to obtain financial gain by fraudulent means.
Viktor Kožený, who was behind some of the Czech Republic’s most notorious white-collar crime in the 1990s, remains at large in the Bahamas.
Such crimes can include violating a variety of laws, but typically they are economic in nature, such as tax fraud, misappropriation, corruption, and money laundering. White-collar crimes are serious and occur frequently, yet they are often overlooked inasmuch as they may be elaborately concealed and because many consider them to be less serious than violent crimes and therefore fail to recognize their impacts on businesses and individuals. Such impacts include serious economic damage, distortion of markets, and undermining the principles of rule of law.
Tyto dopady zahrnují vážné ekonomické škody, pokřivení trhu, a podkopávání principů právního státu.
