A tranche is a segment of a financing transaction.

Comment

A tranche may be one part of a single transaction spread over time, such as when a company issues bonds or a bank issues parts of a loan (known as multitranche financing) at two or more different times. It also may be a group of pooled securities issued at the same time, such as in a collateralized debt obligation (CDO) or other structured financing deal. In this case, the securities are grouped by such characteristics as maturity or risk (seen in the securities’ credit ratings). Tranches with less risk (higher credit ratings) are known as senior tranches, while those with more risk (those which take the first losses if the underlying debt is not repaid) are known as junior tranches. The word tranche means “slice” in French.

Tranše může být jednou částí jedné transakce rozložené v čase, například když společnost vydává dluhopisy nebo banka vydává části půjčky (toto se označuje jako multitranche financing) ve dvou nebo více různých dobách. Může také jít o skupinu sdružených cenných papírů vydaných zaráz, například v zajištěných dluhových obligacích (CDO) nebo jiných obchodech strukturovaného financování. Tranše s nižším rizikem (vyšším úvěrovým ratingem) se označují jako senior tranše, zatímco ty s vyšším rizikem (ty, které utrpí první ztráty v případě nesplacení podkladového dluhu) se označují jako junior tranše. Slovo „tranche“ znamená ve francouzštině plátek nebo krajíc.
