Rightsizing /

Rightsizing

Business Term of the Day

Definition

In principle, rightsizing is a strategic effort to achieve an optimal organizational size.

Example sentence

After yet another poor quarter at Goldbank, the CEO’s announcement of another round of so-called rightsizing did not come as much of a surprise to most of the other managers.

Comment

Although rightsizing could, in theory, also mean increasing the workforce in response to anticipated needs of the organization, in general practice the term has become almost a euphemism for downsizing. It is also commonly used to denote adjustments in product size, budgets, and other aspects of an organization not directly concerning the workforce.

Definice
