A price maker is a company which is in a sufficiently strong position that it can set the price of its products or services.
After several competing companies were consolidated, PPC Group lost its market position as price maker. This caused its share price to plummet.
Companies typically attain such dominant position through monopoly or oligopoly. Being a price maker is obviously advantageous because the company need not just accept whatever price the market dictates and hope that it will cover the company’s cost of producing and supplying its goods and/or services. In contrast, a price taker is a company in a position which does not allow it to influence price and must hope the forces of supply and demand in the market will give it a price allowing it to cover its production costs plus a profit.
To způsobilo propad cen jejích akcií.
