Nutraceuticals are foods and dietary supplements providing some medical benefit or drugs derived from food.

When a nutraceutical is a foodstuff, it can also be called a functional food. A nutraceutical may also be categorized as a novel food, although this can more broadly refer also to newly found or transformed foods or foods from genetically modified organisms. A related term, cosmeceutical refers to cosmetics with medical benefits. As with nutraceuticals, however, although such products are often marketed as being physiologically beneficial, the actual benefits may be negligible. When only a small amount of an active ingredient is used for such promotion, this is termed angel dusting.

Související termín kosmeceutika označuje kosmetiku se zdravotními přínosy, Stejně jako u nutraceutik jsou však tyto produkty často pouze propagovány jako fyziologicky prospěšné zatímco jejich skutečné přínosy mohou být zanedbatelné. Když se pro takovou propagaci používá jen malé množství aktivní složky, nazývá se to angel dusting.
