Momentum investing is a strategy based upon buying assets that recently have had good returns and selling those recently having had poor returns.
Sarah decided not to invest in GoldFund’s mutual fund, because she disagreed with its premises about momentum investing, even though they seemed good on paper.
Momentum investing is based on the idea that assets (typically stocks) that have performed well will continue to do so and, conversely, those that did not will keep on performing poorly. Momentum investors typically perform technical analysis to determine the current trends among stocks, commodities, industries, indices, and markets, and try to predict when current market trends are likely to end. When an investor has substantial buying power, this approach may also be termed positive feedback investing, because simply the purchase of a large and growing position in an asset tends to further increase its price (and vice-versa).
Momentum investoři typicky provádějí technickou analýzu, aby určili aktuální trendy akcií, komodit, odvětví, indexů a trhů, a snaží se predikovat, kdy aktuální tržní trendy pravděpodobně skončí.
