Mentoring

Business Term of the Day

Definition

Mentoring is a professional relationship between two people wherein one of those transfers some of his or her experience, expertise, and skills to the other.

Example sentence

The new middle management mentoring program was encountering problems, as there were frequent complaints about lack of structure and poor mentoring skills of the mentors.

Comment

The mentor is usually older than the mentee, although that is not always the case. Mentorship may not necessarily be a one-to-one relationship, and it is relatively common for a mentor to have more than one mentee. In addition to teaching hard skills, a mentor may also help improve his or her mentee’s soft skills, such as communication, responsibility, and teamwork.

Definice
