Long position /

Dlouhá pozice

Business Term of the Day

Definition

A long position is established when an asset is purchased with the expectation of its future rise in price.

Example sentence

Having just taken a long position in ACME’s stock, I was dismayed by its recent price drop.

Comment

Also referred to as buying long or going long, this is essentially what arises when an investor or speculator acquires a security. It is contrasted to a short position wherein an investor has sold assets he or she has borrowed with the expectation to cover the short position by buying the assets back at a future lower price.

Definice
