A leaseback is a transaction wherein a buyer leases a property back to the seller.
Logis Inc. has acquired a warehouse from Voltic but will rent it back to the electric car manufacturer under a 20-year leaseback contract.
Also referred to as sale and leaseback and sale/leaseback, such transactions are most commonly executed as real-estate transactions between businesses. Such deal may confer advantages to both parties: the seller/lessee receives cash while continuing to use the property (at the cost of increased operating expenses), whereas the buyer/lessor acquires the property and may expect to be paid regularly for its use by the lessee.
