Land use, land-use change, and forestry (LULUCF) refers to the management of land-based ecosystems and their transformations.
Implementing sustainable agroforestry practices boosted crop yields and transformed the region’s LULUCF sector into a net carbon sink, thereby resulting in the removal of 3.2 million tons of CO₂ annually.
The LULUCF sector influences the exchange of carbon dioxide between the atmosphere and terrestrial ecosystems. According to the IPCC, the Agriculture, Forestry, and Other Land Use (AFOLU) sector accounted for 13–21% of global anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions between 2010 and 2019, with deforestation alone contributing to 45% of these emissions. However, there is also great opportunity in this sector to mitigate climate change through activities such as reducing deforestation, afforestation, reforestation, and sustainable agricultural practices. It is estimated that soil carbon sequestration in croplands and grasslands alone could reduce global emissions by 1.8–4.1 gigatons of CO₂ equivalent annually.
Využívání půdy, změny ve využívání půdy a lesnictví (LULUCF) se vztahuje k hospodaření s půdními ekosystémy a jejich přeměnám.
Zavedení udržitelných postupů zemědělsko-lesnického hospodaření zvýšilo výnosy plodin a přeměnilo sektor LULUCF v regionu na čistý propad uhlíku, což vedlo k odstranění 3,2 milionu tun CO₂ ročně.
Sektor LULUCF ovlivňuje výměnu oxidu uhličitého mezi atmosférou a suchozemskými ekosystémy. Podle Mezivládního panelu pro změnu klimatu (IPCC) se sektor zemědělství, lesnictví a ostatní využívání půdy (AFOLU) podílel v letech 2010-2019 na celosvětových antropogenních emisích skleníkových plynů 13-21 %, přičemž samotné odlesňování se na těchto emisích podílelo 45 %. I v tomto odvětví však existují velké příležitosti ke zmírnění změny klimatu prostřednictvím činností, jako je omezování odlesňování, zalesňování, obnova lesů a udržitelné zemědělské postupy. Jen samotná sekvestrace uhlíku v půdě na orné půdě a pastvinách by mohla snížit celosvětové emise o 1,8-4,1 GtCO₂eq ročně.
