Emotional intelligence, sometimes shortened to EI, and often referred to as emotional quotient or EQ, involves recognizing, understanding, utilizing, and managing one’s emotions. There exist several competing definitions of emotional intelligence, and it can be as difficult to evaluate as it is precisely to define. Although widely considered a crucial personality aspect in terms of workplace performance, and particularly so for successful managers, research has shown only mixed results for correlations between EI and job performance.
