Business Term of the Day

Definition

A Dutch auction is a type of auction in which the asking price starts high and is gradually decreased until someone accepts.

Example sentence

The U.S. Treasury has adopted the Dutch auction format for the sale of certain bonds.

Comment

A Dutch auction may be seen as the opposite of an English auction, wherein a low opening bid is offered and the participants then offer an increasingly higher price. Dutch auctions are used for auctioning flowers, fruits, as well as shares in initial public offerings (IPOs).

Definice
