Also termed divestiture, it is the opposite of investment. As with investments, the reasons for divestment are diverse, ranging from purely financial (selling off an underperforming investment) or managerial (disposing of a fringe division to focus on core business) to sociopolitical or moral (e.g., removing shares in tobacco companies from a portfolio focused on health care).
