Divestment is the sale of an asset, thereby reducing the investor’s position or ownership share.

Comment

Also termed divestiture, it is the opposite of investment. As with investments, the reasons for divestment are diverse, ranging from purely financial (selling off an underperforming investment) or managerial (disposing of a fringe division to focus on core business) to sociopolitical or moral (e.g., removing shares in tobacco companies from a portfolio focused on health care).

Jde o protiklad investice. Podobně jako u investic, důvody divestic jsou různé a sahají od čistě finančních důvodů (prodej nevýkonné investice) přes manažerské (zbavení se okrajové divize pro lepší zaměření na klíčové podnikání) až po společenské a morální (odstranění akcií tabákových společností z portfolia zaměřeného na zdravotnictví).
