In a securities market, spoofing refers to a (generally illegal) practice of submitting orders with the intention of disrupting the market or deceiving other market participants.

Comment

Spoofing is most commonly carried out in a context of algo trading, which enables opening as well as cancelling orders very quickly. The intention of spoofing is to create the impression of optimism by placing fake buy orders and pessimism when withdrawing the fake buy orders or entering fake sell orders. Spoofers then quickly exploit these sentiments when the market responds to them. Like other disruptive trading practices, such as quote stuffing and layering, spoofing is illegal in well-developed and well-regulated securities markets. A complex spoof set up by a lone day trader is thought to have been one of the main factors contributing to the 2010 Flash Crash.

Na trhu cenných papírů spoofing označuje (obecně nelegální) praktiku podávání příkazů s úmyslem narušit trh nebo oklamat ostatní účastníky trhu.

Jedním z problémů spojených s dnešními superrychlými systémy elektronických příkazů na trzích s cennými papíry je schopnost rychle zadávat a rušit příkazy, kvůli čemuž je spoofing velmi atraktivní pro nepoctivé obchodníky.

Poznámka

Spoofing se nejčastěji provádí v kontextu algo obchodování, které umožňuje velmi rychlé otevírání i rušení příkazů. Účelem spoofingu je vytvořit dojem optimismu podáváním falešných pokynů a pesimismu při jejich stažení nebo zadáváním falešných prodejních pokynů. Osoby provádějící spoofing následně rychle využívají těchto nálad, jakmile na ně trh zareaguje. Stejně jako další rušivé obchodní praktiky, jako jsou quote stuffing a layering, je spoofing ilegální na rozvinutých a dobře regulovaných trzích s cennými papíry. Komplikovaný spoof, který provedl jediný intradenní obchodník se považuje za jeden z hlavních faktorů, které přispěly k bleskovému krachu v roce 2010.
