An investment thesis is the set of an investor’s ideas and beliefs that influence his or her investment decisions.

Comment

An investment thesis incorporates both macroeconomic and microeconomic information and predictions. An investment thesis tends to be quite specific, relating to an individual investment, security, or company. However, it is necessarily based on the investor’s investment philosophy and his or her opinions on such matters as the efficient markets hypothesis. For any given investment, for example, a value investor will probably formulate a thesis that is very different from that of a high-frequency trader.
